Acacia Gum (Gum Arabic) is natural agricultural product originate from the Gum Belt region of Africa, geographically ranging from Somalia in the East to Senegal in the West. Sudan, Chad and Nigeria are the largest producers respectively. It is also known as Gum Arabic because it was originally shipped from Arabian ports to Europe.

In year 2000 Chad has risen swiftly in Gum Export and production to become a major player in the international market paralleling Sudan. The gum market in Chad is driven by the private sector, free from any government intervention unlike other gum producing countries.

The private sector through their association and cooperation developed the gum industry in Chad, increasing its production over 200% in 5 years from 1990-1995. In year 2004 Chad produced about 18,000 MT of Talha alone, according to the national estimation only 50% of the gum Arabic resources is exploited, therefore, Chad has the ability to double or triple its production capacity in the near future.
